qBittorrent aims to be an open source, cross-platform alternative to µTorrent, which in turn aims to be lightweight, fast and powerful. I chose qBittorrent over: µTorrent for being free (of advertising); Transmission for better security (libtorrent); Deluge for better Windows UI integration (Qt). qBittorrent also includes an RSS downloader out-of-the-box.

Added a new torrent file, watched it progress to 100% and when I look in File Manager on my Synology NAS, the location of the downloaded files is directly under /data, not under /data/torrents as expected. QBittorrent features an in-built search which you can use to search for torrents directly from the client. Although it’s not as effective as a web browser, it is faster and much easier to use. If the search engine is not enabled, you can do so from the “ View ” tab on the menu bar.

  • Avoid manually checking for new episodes, or less predictably; new seasons.
  • High chance of the download being completed by the time you feel like watching it.
  • Schedule your bittorrent client to minimise interference with your other internet uses, or to utilise off-peak quotas.
  1. Go to qBittorrent’s RSS tab (Check View -> RSS Reader if the tab is hidden).
  2. Under New subscription, enter https://eztv.ag/ezrss.xml then hitOK.
  3. Go to RSS Downloader and set up some rules following the example in the opening screenshot.
  • When setting up rules, you’ll only see a match if EZTV published a matching episode in the past hour or so. Be mindful that this means qBittorrent must be running to automatically catch all episodes.
  • The Use Regular Expressions setting helps to avoid false positives.
  • If you only want the lower resolution encode, move 720p to the Must not contain field.
  • The Ignore Subsequent Matches for X days setting helps to avoid duplicate episodes for shows released weekly.
  • Check EZTV’s website for a full list of the shows they index.

qBittorrent is a cross-platformfree and open-sourceBitTorrent client.

qBittorrent is a native application written in C++. It uses Boost, Qt 5 toolkit, and libtorrent-rasterbar library (for the torrent back-end). Its optional search engine is written in Python.

qBittorrent was originally developed in March 2006 by Christophe Dumez,[1] Nikon driver for mac. from the Université de technologie de Belfort-Montbéliard (University of Technology of Belfort-Montbeliard) in France.

It is currently developed by contributors worldwide and is funded through donations,[8] led by Sledgehammer999 from Greece, who became project maintainer in June 2013.[9]

Along with the 4.0.0 release a new logo for the project was unveiled.[10][11]

qBittorrent is cross-platform, available on many operating systems, including: FreeBSD, Linux, macOS, OS/2 (including ArcaOS and eComStation),[13] Hotmail for the mac. Windows.

As of July 2017, SourceForge statistics indicate that the most popular qBittorrent version of all supported platforms, 81% of downloads were for Windows computers.[14]

As of May 2020, FossHub statistics indicate qBittorrent as the second most downloaded software with over 75 million downloads.[15]

Packages for different Linux distributions are available, though most are provided through official channels via various distributions.[16]

Reception[edit]

In 2012, Ghacks suggested qBittorrent as a great alternative to μTorrent, for anybody put off by recent controversial ad and bundleware changes made to μTorrent.[17]
